Dear Residents,
As you are aware, a “D3 – Extreme Drought” condition is currently in effect. Drought conditions can significantly impact groundwater levels, causing water table levels to decrease at our community wells. When water levels drop, the well pumps must work harder and run longer to supply water to the system. Extended operation under these conditions can place additional strain on the equipment and increase the risk of mechanical issues.
Recently, we have observed the wells pumping for longer periods of time, and many communities have experienced water consumption increases of 50% or more. This indicates a significant increase in demand on the systems. To help protect the water supplies and maintain reliable service for our communities, we are asking all residents to refrain from excessive water usage whenever possible.
We also strongly encourage the communities to implement an irrigation schedule to help distribute water demand more evenly throughout the day and week. An irrigation schedule can be coordinated by the HOA to help ensure watering times are balanced throughout the community. One example would be:
• Odd-numbered homes irrigate on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
• Even-numbered homes irrigate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
In addition, we recommend that some homes irrigate during morning hours while others irrigate during evening hours. Spreading irrigation usage throughout the day can help reduce peak demand on the water system.
These conservation efforts can help prevent issues such as low water pressure and help protect the long-term reliability of the community water system during the ongoing drought conditions.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to conserve water and maintain service reliability for all residents.
Thanks,
ONSWC
